Remembering Mr. Dunstan

I got an e-mail from Tammy (Peel) Collins telling me that Mr. Dunstan had passed away yesterday. The only information we have so far is from the listing in MLive. Thought I would pass it along to everyone.

I also think this would be a great place to share any stories we have of Mr. Dunstan. I can think of at least three stories about him and the times we had in his classroom.

I remember his funky different colored glasses he used to wear and also the big perm he had. I also remember the crazy dances he used to do. My daughter had him as a 6th grade social studies teacher last year and he was still doing those crazy dances. I was subbing at the school yesterday when everyone found out he had passed away and when we got the students together to talk about memories of him, one of the first things they talked about was him dancing. He will be greatly missed=:0(

  • Here are three things I remember from being in Mr. Dunstan’s class in 6th grade.

1 – Having a party every Friday! That was the coolest thing. I remember that was probably the first time I brought in Mexican food into school.

2 – The Disco dance lessons in the gym. To this day I remember Mr. Dunstan teaching us The Arrow and The Box. And I also can remember some of the guys performing their own routine. I won’t name any names, but those guys thought they were the coolest doing their dance routine.

3 – Some of you may remember my nickname in school was Sly. Well that started with Mr. Dunstan. I had brought in something and on a quiz he mentioned it. It went something like this… “Slyvia Garza brought in this article…”. And after that, Sly/Slyvia became my nickname; along with another one I got in High School. Does anyone remember that one?

Those are a few of the things I remember about being in Mr. Dunstan’s class. Does anyone remember his friend he would talk about “Bunny”?

It’s almost been 28 years since I was in his class, but it’s funny how I can remember those events like the happened yesterday.

You will be sadly missed, but never forgotten!

I didn’t have Mr. Dunstan and I was always jealous of that! I always knew y’all were having more fun across the hall than I was with Mr. Boyd (I think). I know everyone will miss him.

  • I remember Mr Dunstan as one of the best teachers in the world. He was hilarious and always talking about his girlfriend Bunny. I also thought he was cool for taking us to get lunch @ McDs or BK. I always wondered what happened to him. I will always remember him and Carman Park for the good times and lastly I just remembered when we used to bring our 45s and everyone would dance and listen to boogie oogie oogie!!!

  • Of all of my teachers, he was the one that inspired me most. He made learning enjoyable. I remember his dances and the lunches when you perfect on your spelling. He used to go to Skyway nlanes and watch David, Brad, and I bowl. I also remember this fragrance he wore, patchoulli, my dad liked it so much he got the mail order info from him. I’ve though of Mr. Dunstan many times over the years and am sorry to hear of his passing.
